Integration in IT landscape
CONVERIS offers connectivity options to more than 40 systems (including SAP, MACH, Agresso, DSpace, Fedora, Eprints). It supports higher education institutions in setting up an integrated and service-oriented IT infrastructure.
Highly flexible, CERIF-compatible data model
As an active member of the European Organisation for International Research Information, euroCRIS (http://www.eurocris.org) – an organisation dedicated to the development of Research Information Systems and their interoperability – the proliferation of the CERIF data model (Common European Research Information Format) is one of our primary goals.
CONVERIS is compatible with CERIF on two levels: CERIF is used natively as far as possible in the data model; and CONVERIS both imports and exports valid CERIF XML files to facilitate CRIS interoperability. Due to our active participation at euroCRIS events as well as within the euroCRIS CERIF Task Group, we try to guarantee that CERIF retains a practical, usable standard. At the same time this allows us to ensure the CERIF compatibility of CONVERIS implementations. Based on our experience of numerous projects across Europe we were able to provide input in to the newest CERIF specification in the field of research infrastructure.
In fields in which application areas and functionality extend beyond CERIF, the CONVERIS architecture of modular and freely definable entities, relations and attributes allows radical extension of the data model. It can thus be easily adjusted to an institution’s organisational and structural characteristics.
Rights management
CONVERIS has a very flexible, fully configurable rights management model that ensures information is made available to those who need it. To achieve this level of security, CONVERIS is based on a role-based access control model that allows the free configuration of user roles such as researcher, library admin, organisational admin, super admin, etc.

End-to-end view on information along the research life cycle
By retrieving data from other internal systems (finance systems, IDM, HR etc.) CONVERIS provides access to all relevant information on projects and research activities in one system – starting from the first idea via grant applications, grants, budgets up to project content, members, cooperations and research output such as publications, patents and technology offers. more ››
Automatic publications import
from online sources such as Web of Science, Scopus and PubMed. more ››
Reporting
In CONVERIS users can create individualised reports e.g. by topic, funders, time, research units, partner organisations as well as thematic classifications, network visualisations, publications reports and bibliometric analyses.
Visualisation of competences and scientific potentials
CONVERIS brings various types of research information (projects, publications, awards, patents, technology offers, cooperations and others) together and relates them to competence fields. This thematic mapping enables research managers to internally evaluate the institution’s core areas of competence and its scientific potentials.
Intuitive User Interface
CONVERIS can be used intuitively and without any special knowledge. The user is guided systematically through the system. A lot of information is imported automatically or semi-automatically – reducing manual entries considerably and giving the researcher time for completing and using the data.
Additional functions for researchers
such as personal publications reports, CV creation, publishing her/his profile in the public web, to-do lists and e-mail notifications.
Optimised data quality
Most attributes (e.g. a SAP project no.) are automatically imported into CONVERIS. This reduces error-prone manual entries to a minimum. Other CONVERIS functions are especially designed to improve data quality: the identification and consolidation function for duplicates, auto-completions, automatic verification of entries, mandatory fields, look-up functions as well as various validation workflows ( e.g. for the validation of publications, journals or grant applications).
