Karolinska Institutet, one of Europe’s largest medical universities, uses CONVERIS in order to establish 9 thematic networks.
A part of Karolinska Instiutet’s (KI) strategy is to bring its researchers together in networks. Previously, three networks have been successfully established. Based upon the positive experiences with these networks, KI has decided to start six new networks. To effectively reach the planned strategic aims of the research networks, it has been concluded that each network needs a web-based system as support. Therefore, KI now has launched CONVERIS as a research information system which enables both the existing and the new networks to present their members, projects and research groups.

CONVERIS supports each network in creating an identity and provides means for communication within and between each network. As the networks can in CONVERIS present themselves over the Internet, they can easily communicate their resources towards external target groups. Through a project database, both internal and external users can get an overview of ongoing research activities as well as identify experts in different thematic areas.Thereto, CONVERIS reuses data that has been compiled in the three already existing networks, amongst them information on projects and their thematic categorisation as well as project members and their research groups and organisation units.

In order to facilitate the handling of the system for its users to the largest possible extent, CONVERIS has been connected to KI’s login server. This means that users with a KI login do not have to enter key information like contact data, email address or organisational affiliation in their profile. Instead, CONVERIS imports this information automatically from the login server when the user logs in for the first time.
